About Us

Owl’s Roost Wildlife Education is a non-profit membership organization dedicated to promoting respect and appreciation for North Carolina’s wildlife.

Owl’s Roost Wildlife Sanctuary was incorporated in 1983 and received 501(c)(3) non-profit status in 1984. Founded by Melanie M Wells, a state and federally licensed wildlife rehabilitator, the focus was the rescue, rehabilitation and release of injured and orphaned wildlife. Programs were performed to educate people of all ages to respect and protect wildlife as well as to give tips on how to assist and temporarily care for wildlife in need. After retiring Ms. Wells turned Owl’s Roost Wildlife Sanctuary over to the current managers who have refocused the organization’s purpose toward education.

Owl’s Roost Wildlife Sanctuary was revamped in 2019 as Owl’s Roost Wildlife Education. We promote respect and appreciation of native North Carolina wildlife through improved understanding of the natural history and habitat of native wildlife. The focus is to share information and knowledge and promote cooperation and professionalism among members.
